How bad is Ares Destiny?

October 31st, 2008   general   No Comments »

Hating an inanimate, intangible object like some software just seems strange. I never really though I would get this would up – or even that I could get this would up – about something that I can’t actually see, but here I am. I totally and utterly appalled at Ares Destiny, the new file sharing software. Ares Destiny offered so much and delivered completely the opposite, trashing my computer in the process. Interested? Read on.

Ares Destiny’s site looks great. Seriously great. The download button is easy to find and the download procedure is pain free and quick. Installation was a breeze, too. The program itself isn’t great although it does suffer a bit from trying far too hard. There are better versions of Ares out there.

What really got me vexed was that fact that, unbeknownst to me, Ares Destiny had allowed a little friend to join the party. That this little friend was there just to upset the apple cart is an understatement, and it really messed things up.

The little friend that came with Ares Destiny? Dealio, the well known ad ware software. Gah! I’m so annoyed I could spit feathers! I had to do a complete reformat in the end to get this monster off. What a waste of time and effort!

Downloading Ares Vista is a unique experience

October 25th, 2008   general   No Comments »

I spend most of my day making websites. I program the code, I design the graphics and I write the text. As are most techno-minded people, I’m an avid file sharer and I use P2P file sharing software – like Ares Vista – on a fairly regular basis. I am pretty confident that I know what I’m doing with it. I tell you this not to boast, but rather to hopefully demonstrate that I know a thing or two about what makes a good website. And I know that OfficialAres.com is a really good website.

Everyone who uses Ares Vista a lot knows that it is essential to take a look at the new versions of Ares Vista – and indeed download Ares Vista – on a regular basis. This is where OfficialAres.com really comes into its own: for anyone looking to download Ares Vista or even find out more information before they even consider going to download Ares Vista, this is the place to read all about it.

The reviews are, for me, the gem of the site; these are reviews that are kept up to date with the various versions of Ares Vista available across the ‘net. Before I download Ares Vista I always check here to make sure that I am in fact getting the right version for my needs.

KEYTEC is a leading touch screen manufacturer

October 25th, 2008   general   No Comments »

Having just tried its hand at developing a digital music player, Microsoft is working on something new: digital furniture.

The company plans to unveil a touch screen computer today called Microsoft Surface, featuring a 30-inch screen embedded in an acrylic tabletop. The device’s electronic guts are hidden in the low-slung table’s thick pedestal.

At first glance, Surface is reminiscent of an old-fashioned arcade game table around which patrons played Pac-Man. But there is no joystick here, and no mouse or keyboard either. The device is controlled by touching the tabletop display.

Microsoft says this touch screen computer will allow people to “interact with digital content the same way they have interacted with everyday items such as photos, paintbrushes and music their entire life: with hands, with gestures and by putting real-world objects on the surface.”

For example, when a digital camera with Wi-Fi capabilities is placed on the display, the table recognizes the camera and, at a touch of the screen, downloads its photos and video clips. The digital pictures can be sorted and sized by “handling” them as if they were physical prints.

The device uses cameras under the display to detect touches, and unlike traditional touch screens it can handle multiple touches at the same time, said Jeff Gattis, the director of product management for Surface.

Similarly, Surface can read bar codes and identification tags embedded in objects like hotel chain membership cards.

Microsoft hopes this touch screen computer will someday be common in homes, but its first uses will be commercial. By the end of this year, Surface will appear in hotels, restaurants, retail stores and public entertainment sites, where it will serve as an information kiosk and handle things like basic customer service. Steven A. Ballmer, Microsoft’s chief executive, was scheduled to unveil the product today at The Wall Street Journal’s “D: All Things Digital” conference in Carlsbad, Calif.

“With Surface, we are creating more intuitive ways for people to interact with technology,” Mr. Ballmer said in a statement. “We see this as a multibillion-dollar category, and we envision a time when touch screen computers will be pervasive, from tabletops and counters to the hallway mirror.”

Microsoft also named several partners that will be among the first companies to use Surface, including Harrah’s Entertainment, Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide and T-Mobile USA. The device’s cost was not disclosed.

What makes Acai so special?

While Acai may be small in size, it packs a nutritional punch unlike any other food in the world. While we get more into the specific benefits of Acai in our Acai health benefits article, here are a few highlights to wet your appetite:

* Dr. Perricone, in his bestseller - “The Perricone Promise” picks Acai fruit as the #1 Super Food in the world.

* In 2005, Oprah name Acai the #1 Super Food, saying “This little berry is one of the most nutritious and powerful foods in the world.”.

* “Rich in antioxidants and amino acids, a?a? is thought to be one of the most nutritional fruits of the Amazon basin.” New York Times, 8/4/2004

* Acai has 10 Times the antioxidant power of red grapes and twice that of blueberries

While other sites make claims about Acai curing every disease known to man, we would never make those claims. What is clear is that Acai has tremendous health properties and may be one of the best possible foods you can eat to stay healthy. In our article - Nutritional make up of Acai - we get into more specifics of what makes Acai so healthy.

Sarah Palin’s early life started in Idaho

October 21st, 2008   general   No Comments »

Sarah Palin has never been one to worry about stepping on others’ toes. Her short tenure as Governor of Alaska has been marked by sweeping changes and many enemies. From the recently named troopergate back to her predator control policies and her battle for the Bridge to Nowhere, Sarah Palin has certainly fought hard for her for her passions and beliefs.

But this passion and drive has certainly won over the voters: in 2007 Sarah Palin was described as the most popular Governor America after netting an astonishing 93% and 89% popularity in two polls. Polls in 2008 – after agreeing to run with John McCain as Vice President – put her at the still comfortable heights of 68% popularity.

Sarah Palin is not afraid of making sweeping changes in State as the $237 million cuts in State construction projects, reducing it to just $1.3 billion, shows. She also sold a jet bought by her predecessor for State business on ebay. It is moves like this that polarize those following Sarah Palin, but also that make her such a good choice for a dynamic Vice President.

This is one hockey mom with a serious ‘can do’ attitude. Good for her, I say!

Google Adwords not used on P2P, 5 reasons why not

Brand Asset Digital launched its P2P advertising platform P2Pwords today, promising to bring pay-per-click advertising to file-sharing networks like Limewire, Gnutella and Emule. The NY-based company received a largely positive review from John Healey over at The LA Times Bitplayer blog, who thinks that “the opportunity presented by P2Pwords is so large, it may be hard for advertisers to resist.”

The combination of file sharing and advertising is definitely an interesting one. File-sharing networks attract millions of users. It’s becoming clearer every day that the entertainment industry’s shock-and-awe lawsuits just don’t work, which is why many look for other ways to monetize P2P. Still, it’s a good idea to approach these early trials with a healthy dose of skepticism. After all, Skyrider, another company that promised to marry search ads with P2P networks just closed its doors last week after burning through $25 million in funding.

Brand Asset Digital compares its P2Pwords platform to Google’s Adwords service. The major search engines attract about 10 billion web searches per month, the company argues, whereas P2P networks supposedly attract 1.5 billion searches per day. P2Pwords wants to leverage that search volume by essentially distributing sponsored and ad-supported content through file-sharing networks. The company’s private beta test included Glaceau, the maker of Vitaminwater; it distributed a sponsored video of Hip-Hop star 50 Cent that offered the ability to click through to a Vitaminwater web site. Brand Asset Digital said some of those early tests saw click-through rates of over 4 percent.

That sounds pretty good, but here are five big caveats:

1. P2Pwords is not Adsense. It’s understandable that the company is comparing itself to Google’s success story, but there are noticeable differences. Google monetizes search by displaying its ads next to, but separate from, its own search results. Brand Asset Digital, on the other hand, doesn’t own a search engine. Instead it injects its ads right into the search results of P2P clients like Limewire, which means it’s operating more like a SEO trying to exploit Google. As a result, it has to walk a fine line, displaying its content only when it is relevant, but also trying to get attention from file sharers that are looking for 50 Cent’s latest album, and not his Vitaminwater commercials.

2. P2P is moving to the web. Brand Asset Digital claims that 70 percent of all upstream bandwidth is consumed by P2P. That sounds about right, but most of those bits are actually caused by BitTorrent transfers. BitTorrent clients, however, don’t offer search networks, and are instead relying on web sites like Mininova and The Pirate Bay for search — which, of course, already have advertising in place. P2Pwords only works for P2P clients like Limewire. Those are still significant when it comes to music downloads, but their overall market share is shrinking.

3. The P2P ad market is getting crowded. P2Pwords claims to be the first “pay-per-click search marketing platform,” but it’s not the only one targeting file sharers with ads. The Jun Group, anti-piracy outlet Mediadefender, Hiro and Yume Networks are all offering similar services. Skyrider, also in the same league, just went under last week. Users of file-sharing clients like Limewire are also getting targeted by rogue spammers, porn advertisers, virus writers and other annoyances, which makes it harder and harder to find the content for which they’re actually looking. The P2P community is increasingly responding with IP number-based filters and block lists — and it may just be a question of time before P2Pwords advertisers find themselves blacklisted as well.

4. The market is just not that big. P2P networks only attract a small segment of the whole search market. You just don’t search for a plumber on Limewire. Most people are instead looking for music or video downloads, and most entertainment companies still shy away from P2P networks. The same seems to be true for many big brands, and it’s unclear how valuable P2P will be for them if their attitude ever changes. Advertisers want to sell products, but file sharers want stuff for free, which is why digital retailers especially may find that the Cost Per Acquisition of P2P campaigns is going to be much higher than that of traditional search advertising.

5. There are some significant changes coming. Contextual search ads really only took off when Google launched its own platform. The same may be true for P2P search ads. Limewire is getting ready to launch its own search ad network called Lime Links, which is currently in stealth mode. The company plans to offer self-serve advertising for its own and other P2P clients, as well as for entertainment-related web sites. Limewire’s client is installed on 17 percent of all PCs in the U.S., according to Torrentfreak, and the company is planing to expand its market share with new social networking functionalities. The launch of Lime Links is likely going to be a game changer for companies like Brand Asset Digital — and could even make their business model obsolete over night.

WMI is a viable home business opportunity

October 20th, 2008   general   No Comments »

If you are new to the world of home based business, then you may have trouble trying to find the right opportunity. This is a problem that many people face every day, and there is only one way around it: good solid research.

Doing research on the Internet is a dangerous game, but with most home based businesses (we’re going to take Wealth Masters International as our example here, but this article refers to most business opportunities) it is still the best place to get a variety of views. Remember, before you take on anything like the Wealth Masters International opportunity you should form your own opinions based on what you have seen; taking one other person’s opinion as gospel is as bad as taking no advice at all.

Search Google for Wealth Masters International will bring up far too many pages to check through and naturally you will rely on Google to sort out the wheat from the chaff. Except it will not, and your sense of integrity must do this. Finding unbiased reviews of Wealth Masters International will be difficult but it is not impossible and, what’s more, it is absolutely essential if you are to spend any time or money on an opportunity.

Think and Grow Rich

October 13th, 2008   general   No Comments »

Guess what the 10th step of the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill is called? I bet you can’t! It’s “The Mystery of Sex Transmutation: The Tenth Step Towards Riches”. The association of sex and mega-wealth may be a little odd, but there it is, as plain as day in front of you. The fact that Hill manages to mix this into Think And Grow Rich just shows what a lateral thinker he is.

I didn’t find that chapter until I’d had the book at least a year. My husband bought me Think and Grow Rich as a present, you see, after he had so enjoyed it himself. It really isn’t the kind of book I like to read (there’s no sex in it, you see… or so I thought!).

Anyway, on finding this rather wonderfully titled chapter I was more than a little intrigued. I read chapter 11 and then started from the beginning, devouring the whole book in under 2 days. What a revelation the whole thing was for me.

And to think that my one track mind wouldn’t have even considered Think and Grow Rich were it not for the mention of Sex in one of the chapters!

iPhone TV in the Play with iPhone Games

October 2nd, 2008   general   No Comments »

I’m one of the biggest Apple fanboys that I’ve ever met. I bought the iPhone when it first came out and I bought the new 3G version when that arrived. My friends think it’s a waste of money but I see it as my hobby. And I get enjoyment out of it.

What I have been most interested about lately is the announcement by Apple that iPhone TV might ?be on the cards. Now, don’t get me wrong, I don’t waste time watching much TV, but I’m just interested in the how iPhone TV is going to get around the technological barriers presented by the ?delivery of video quality footage to the iPhone and the gphone TV is yet to come in the play.

So I read a little more about it (i.e. all I could find!). It turns out that a Wi-Fi connection is needed: the EDGE network just doesn’t have the capacity to deliver the iPhone TV signal to the iPhone at a sufficient quality to make it viewable.

The SlingBox and Sling software (yes, I have one of these, too) is existing tried-and-tested ?software that transfers TV from one medium to the other via the Internet. Allegedly Apple don’t want to work with Sling on this one, though. If they did then we’d probably be looking at iPhone ?TV right now.

A Mac game all should Play!

October 2nd, 2008   general   No Comments »

I was astonished by the graphic and visual appeal this nifty tower game had called the “hordes of arcs”  reviewed at this site for mac games is a god send. Mac games get a lot of attention by virtue but this mac game is worth all the attention it has gotten and deserves more. The game is simple to understand , defend your territory and keep the ugly, mean looking, smelly Orcs away from your tower and our civilization. Because, they are like virus once in, they multiply and out live you and human kind. I know, I am getting too carried away with this game, but seriously its a nice, nifty game tailored to defend you and whats yours. The mac enthusiasts love it for various reson, one its 3D is amazing and two, when you think you have succeeded the orcs, they get even meaner and stronger keeps you interested all the time. The tower has a life of its own and when you think your comfortable with a specific size and structure , no don’t get deceived by the shape shifting and spell that the Orcs put on you. Bottom line this is one of the best mac games ever!!! The gphone is still the main release needs more wait and its worth the wait.
