“Strike, strike, strike, going in,” says a tense, disembodied voice over a police radio in Britain.
Must be something serious.
And just before that, “The tactics were the same, but this time the target was very different.”
That’s from a reporter who, by an amazing coincidence, happened to find out about the Warner Music, EMI, Vivendi Universal and Sony BMG initiated raid on a 24-year-old man in England just in time to be included.
The man is accused of facilitating the non-existent crime of online file sharing on OiNK and, “The aim was to catch the man while he was logged on to the site,” the reporter continues in a video shot from inside a police car nearing the home of the ’suspect’.
By another amazing coincidence, the video of the bust turned up on YouTube, we said.
In another story, “Users were, ‘potentially evading licence fees, subscription fees to digital services or the cost of purchase or admittance to cinemas to view the films’,” p2pnet had entertainment cartel outfit FACT (Farcical Approaches to Copyright Transgressions) mouthperson Kieron Sharp saying.
We went on, “Potentially? So now they’re nailing people for something they might, or might not, do.
“Meanwhile, the IFP is bragging it was able to steal scarce British and Dutch police resources, not to mention Interpol, away from normal duties to arrest a 24-year-old ’suspect’.
“This followed a, ‘two-year investigation by the international and UK music industry bodies IFPI and BPI,’ says the IFPI.”
Now, the trial of OiNK founder Alan Ellis started yesterday at Middlesbrough Crown Court, says TorrentFreak, adding:
“Due to a press boycott of the previous court hearings, there was no information available on the reasons for the delay.
“What we do know is that Ellis has been charged with conspiracy to defraud the music industry for his role in the OiNK tracker.
“During the first day of his trial little has happened. The case has been adjourned until tomorrow when the jury will be assigned. There is still a reporting ban in place on three specific issues, but the trial can and will be reported on.”
