Browser rivalry
Browser rivalry
Ever heard of an in-house competition, that is products of the same company vying with one another wider share of market? Puzzling isn’t it? That is what Microsoft is actually experiencing at present. According to a recent study conducted, Internet Explorer 8 or IE 8 is a big hit in the browser department that is if your consider IE 7 as the main constituent of that department , and has succeeded in displacing a sizable share of IE 7. Surprisingly, neither IE 6 nor Mozilla’s Firefox 3.5 has been dented by the new IE 8. It is only IE 7 whose share in the market is being threatened by IE 8 and you always presumed that they were chums. The market share of IE 6 has fallen slightly in the last two months but the market share of IE 7 has fallen considerably in 5 months whereas that of IE 8 has risen sharply, indicating the extent to which IE has dented IE 7 share.
Studies also show that Firefox close to 23% of browser market share, is the second largest preferred browser globally, which is quite commendable considering the monopoly enjoyed by IE 6 and other previous versions of IE which came to almost 95% of the market share. Mozilla is all set to give IE a run for its money, owing to its easy to operate, which is getting simpler by the day and patronized by a growing number of users worldwide. The climb has not been easy for Mozilla and it had to strive hard to reach where it is today. Once Mozilla introduces the auto-update feature, Firefox 3.5 is bound to grow in strength soon. Now IE 8 should stop looking at IE 7 as a serious competitor and turn to Mozilla instead.
