Crazy Over Tagalong Songs
Filipinos are by nature, music loving people. Music is by far a way of life to them. My music teacher once said that Filipinos sing when they are happy, sad and even when frightened. This passion for music is shown in the vast genre and styles of songs written by Filipino composers; from folk songs (also known as Tagalog Songs or Kundiman), dance and disco, reggae music, rock and roll to pop music (OPM, Original Pilipino Music).
Today, most of the Kundiman Tagalog Songs are played during Sundays on some Radio Stations, mainly maybe because of its listenership audience share (from ages 45 and up). Although most all of the schools in the Philippines are obliged to promote the musical culture of Filipinos in the academe such are during the Linggo ng Wika in which all schools should hold Literary and Musical competitions where students sang their heart out to a few Classic Kundimans; Tagalog songs are just mere pieces to be heard on Sundays.
Because of modernization, most young people of today prefer the modern type of music found in OPM. Such change is inevitable because of the Tagalog songs or Kundimans’ theme about love, passion and simple living which is a total opposite of what modern day young people want. With such drastic change of lifestyle, young music consumers of today are exposed to many cultures and have embraced foreign cultural impositions.
But if you are crazy over some good old Tagalog songs, the internet offers a plethora of good choices. From Mp3s to music videos found on YouTube, the list is endless. Some websites even dedicate their spaces for hard to find Tagalog songs. Some even enable you to download these files for your listening pleasure. While most of these Tagalog song pieces are sung by original artists, some are modern rendition and versions of the songs from avid fans.
