A Mexican Restaurant For The Connoisseur
Choosing the Iron Cactus for a night of Mexican food, drink and music is pretty much a no brainer: it is possible one of the best places in the country for tequila. When you get to the ambient 6th avenue rooftop bar you can quickly see why: the range is outstanding. Standing here overlooking the city, drinking tequila and enjoying my company, I was wondering if life could get any better at all.
The restaurant does not appear to allow ‘call-ahead’/reservations but I’ve never ever had any problems getting sat down. Occasionally there is a little wait for the tables, but there are plenty to go around and the waiting staff are nothing if not polite and efficient. In any case you can always just pop upstairs for another cheeky tequila!
There service here is getting a bit of a reputation and, again, it’s easy to see why. Friendly staff help you make your order and, when asked, provide intelligent suggestions. Special dietary requirements (including vegetarians, which, with Mexican food consisting largely of meat, are not usually well catered for in your standard Mexican restaurant are spoilt for choice) are satisfied with painstaking accuracy.
This is a great Mexican restaurant and beats everything else in Austin, Texas hands down.
