Anxiety and Depression After Cancer: Early Diagnosis
People who are diagnosed with cancer face an increased risk of depression. Studies made by Danish MD and PhD. Susanne Dalton on more than 600,000 patients with a cancer diagnosis showed that anxiety and depression after cancer was higher than for the average population.
The study found that the risk of anxiety and depression after cancer increased in the years after a cancer diagnosis and then decreased as the years after the diagnosis passed, but that the risk of hospital admission because of depression remained at a higher level than for the general population.
This study gives added weight to the importance of diagnosing and treating anxiety and depression after cancer as early as possible. Often the symptoms of cancer and depression overlap, so extra care must be taken to inform patients that this is normal to become depressed after the diagnosis, so the patient can be helped.
The study concluded that treatment of anxiety and depression after cancer, could reduce the risk of admission because of depression and help enhance the sufferers life quality.
Natural treatments are an option to treat cancer and have several benefits, especially that there is no strong side effects, that could otherwise be unpleasant for the patient.
