AFP disclaimer …
-
p2pnet news view P2P:- Agence France-Press, the world’s oldest news agency, says if you use any of its material and something goes wrong, it’s your problem.
Under “Copyright © 2010 AFP” on Google it states in part, “As a newswire service AFP does not obtain release from the subjects, individuals, groups or entities contained in its photographs, graphics or quoted in its text”, going on:
“Further, no clearance is obtained from the owners of any trademarks or copyrighted material where the marks and material are included in AFP photos or content.”
Does that mean it uses stuff without permission? Wouldn’t that be copyright infringement?
Not only but also, “AFP materials may not be stored in whole or in part in a computer except for personal non-commercial use.”
p2pnet isn’t a business but because we carry ads to keep the site online, it might be described as ‘commercial’.
The AFP logo on the right is now stored on our computer, but we found it on the Wikipedia which in turn found it on Brands of the World, which is definitely commercial.
The disclaimer looks fairly new and AFP has been known to get shirty about the unauthorised use of its material, having sued Google for allegedly using its stuff without paying royalties …
Stay tuned?
