Bruce County ISPs vs Bell Aliant
p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- There’s a thread running on dslreports centering on efforts by smaller ISPs in Bruce County, Western Ontario, to take advantage of $1 million in provincial funding to expand the local high-speed net into to underserviced areas.
Nvisible Links of Wiarton, Packet-Tel (Kitchener), Grey Bruce Telecom (Allenford) and Maximum Isp (Sauble Beach) teamed up as Bruce County Communications Corporation in hopes of getting the contract, says the Owen Sound Times.
But their bid went nowhere and they’re now appealing the decision by the county council to give the contract to Bell Aliant, a company in which Bell Canada has a 45% stake.
The man who brought it in was consultant Les Tutkaluke, a reseller for Telus “which has an agreement with Bell to provide (rural internet) services,” the Kincardine News had John Schnurr of Nvisible Links, who’s speaking for the local group, stressing angrily last month.
“lol 1 million dollars and all they do is sell a stick for their decrepit over-sold slow as molasses wireless access,” says stacked deck in dslreports.
“Bruce county citizens got the shaft, and will pay for getting the shaft (Vaseline is an additional value-added cost).”
The decision “effectively puts the local providers out of business while paving the way for Bell and Telus to make gains on the infrastructure the independent local companies have built over the past five years,” the Kincardine News has Schnurr stating.
Stay tuned.
(Cheers, Marc)
