Germany says ‘No!’ to 3 strikes law

p2pnet news view P2P | Politics:- Do you think the cartels have an actual war-room — a dark, dank place where they do their futile plotting and planning?

Their Three Strikes bidniz plan has absolutely no chance of any long-term success.

It looks good in mainstream press corps(e), largely owned and/or directly or indirectly controlled by elements of the entertainment industry, but when it hits the streets, it’ll splatter right back into the faces of the politicians behind it, and Vivendi Universal, EMI, Warner Music and Sony Music, and Disney, News Corp, Time Warner, Viacom, NBC Universal and Sony Pictures.

It’ll be messy.

Britain has just jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire with outright support of the corporate Three Strikes plan, as has France.

But although Germany’s new coalition government says it’ll “tighten up copyright law”, it’s “shied away from introducing any ‘three strikes’-style legislation,” says Billboard, going on »»»

The new coalition, comprising the conservative Christian Democrats (CDU), Christian Social Union (CSU) and the liberal Free Democrats (FDP) … has published a 124-page document outlining its policy proposals. Among them is the promise to mount a strong defence of copyright. The government says it wants to “achieve a high level of protection and an effective assertion of the copyright-law.”

“We want to promote the possibilities of an internal regulation with the participation of the right-owners and the Internet-providers,” says the document, according to the story, but “We will not take initiatives for legal possibilities to block Internet access in cases of copyright infringements.”

The document “also contains a pledge to facilitate European-wide licensing of online rights by collecting societies”, Billboard adds.
