Daily Mirror blocks NewsNow
NewsNow bills itself as “The UK’s #1 News Portal” offering headlines and links to full stories —-
—- with subscriptions at £75 a month.
That’s about $130 CAD.
Now the famous Daily Mirror “has joined an increasing number of newspapers to block news aggregator NewsNow from trawling its website,” says the BBC, going on:
“The paper objects to NewsNow offering a subscription service that charges clients for digital press clippings, including links to Mirror stories.
“The Sun and Times Online have also recently blocked the service.”
The Mirror is now using robot.txt, which limits what search engines can index on a site, to block NewsNow, says the story.
The change, made on Monday, makes NewsNow “the only site blocked from crawling a Mirror.co.uk that’s increasingly emboldened against gatekeepers like search engines and aggregators,” says paidContent UK.
“We’re not big fans of their business model,” it has Mirror.co.uk digital director Matt Kelly saying.
