The move to my new Belgian host multibox.be wentsmoothly, thanks to the expertise of  Ciff Haerden.

But I’m still having difficulties with DoNotGoDaddy which have to be sorted before I can finish the move, and I seem to be going in ever-decreasing circles.

But normal story posting will resume tomorrow, with a bit of luck. :)

Cheers! And thanks.

CRTC asks Canadians to comment on the so-called TV tax on special web site Canadia Press
Canadians are being asked about the so-called TV tax and the affordability of cable television and satellite services on a special website set up by the CRTC. The federal broadcast regulator also wants Canadians to use the website to air their views on the availability of local news, information and public affairs programming. “The TV industry is being transformed like never before,” Scott Hutton, the regulator’s executive director of broadcasting, said in a video on website, launched on Monday. At the heart of the debate is a battle between the major television broadcasters and cable and satellite companies over who pays for TV signals. The TV broadcasters have asked the CRTC to compel the cable and satellite operators to pay for the broadcasters’ TV signals to help maintain local stations and programming.

Apple, Psystar strike deal in copyright case Computerworld
Apple Inc. and Mac clone maker Psystar Corp. agreed Monday to settle a 17-month lawsuit that will effectively stop Psystar from pre-installing Apple’s Mac OS X on the Intel-based computers Psystar sells. It may not prevent the small Doral, Fla.-based computer maker from selling Mac clones, however. Instead, Psystar laid out an argument that would shift responsibility for installing Apple’s operating system onto its customers. Settlement details were not available, although Psystar indicated in a motion submitted Monday that additional information would be filed today in federal court in San Francisco with Judge William Alsup. The settlement, which requires Psystar to pay Apple an as-yet-unspecified amount of damages, would not be awarded until Psystar has exhausted all appeals.

Lisbon Treaty could strengthen EU powers in IP and data protection OUT-LAW News
The European Union has strengthened its powers to change intellectual property and data protection laws in future, according to one EU law expert. The structure of the European Union changed today when the Lisbon Treaty came into force. The Treaty is the replacement for a rejected EU constitution and it amends the other treaties on which the EU is founded. Its governmental changes, such as the creation of an EU Council presidency and a foreign minister role for the EU Commission, have proved controversial. But one EU law specialist has said that the changes could affect other areas crucial to business. “The Lisbon Treaty provides a more secure legislative platform for the EU to legislate on areas such as energy and intellectual property, potentially widening the scope of existing forms of legislative intervention,” said Adrian Wood of Pinsent Masons, the law firm behind OUT-LAW.COM. “Lisbon also offers the potential for greater legislative involvement in the field of data protection through Article 16(2) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU).” The TFEU is the new name given to the EC Treaty, which was the founding document of the EU trading bloc.

India blocks millions of mobiles for security reasons BBC
Millions of Indian mobile phones with no valid unique identification code have been blocked for security reasons. The International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number is a 15-digit code which appears on the operator’s network whenever a call is made. The absence of this number makes it impossible to trace either the caller or the phone or to access call details. Indian intelligence agencies say phones without the code have been used in attacks by militant groups. Mobile phones without the code were blocked at midnight – operators were asked to bar calls to them “in the wake of increased threat perception from militants”.

King to probe release of 9/11 pager messages Newsweek
Concerned about the release of 500,000 intercepted pager messages from Sept. 11, 2001, Rep. Peter King said he plans to have his Washington staff begin a preliminary investigation. “It does raise security issues, and we will look into it in Washington,” King (R-Seaford), the ranking Republican on the House Committee on Homeland Security, said Friday. The messages were compiled by the Web site WikiLeaks.org, a worldwide group that acquires information and releases it to the public. The Web site said the archives of pager messages were released to help “lead to a nuanced understanding of how this event led to death, opportunism and war.” No one at WikiLeaks could be reached for comment at various numbers listed for the group.

Reality show wannabes deny crashing White House dinner Reuters
The reality TV show hopefuls who got into a White House state dinner without an invitation gave their first national TV interview on Tuesday and denied they gate-crashed the high-security gala. “We were invited, not crashers, and there isn’t anyone that would have the audacity or the poor behavior to do that. The White House is ‘the house’ and no one would do that, certainly not us,” said Michaele Salahi, who appeared with her husband Tareq on NBC’s “Today” show. The Salahis managed to penetrate tight security and have their photos taken with President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and other White House officials at a state dinner last week for Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The White House says the Salahis were not invited and their presence was seen as an embarrassing security lapse.

Nokia Sues LCD, CRT Display Makers New York Times
Nokia Corp., the world’s biggest mobile phone maker, said Tuesday it has filed suits against several liquid crystal display makers for alleged price fixing. The Finnish company said the suits, filed last month in the United States and Britain, follow investigations by government authorities and similar actions by other companies. ”Nokia has filed suits to recover overcharges it paid as a result of cartel activities which are currently under governmental investigation,” a company statement said. ”When certain companies and management employees have already admitted participating in, or are indicted for, global price-fixing cartels involving components that Nokia has purchased, it is reasonable for Nokia to seek redress.” Nokia said it is focussing on alleged cartels involving liquid crystal displays, used in handsets, and cathode ray tubes.
