Craigslist founder tells court eBay reneged on promises Associated Press
The founder of the online classifieds site Craigslist says he began having concerns with eBay shortly after the online auction site took a minority stake in his company. Craig Newmark testified Thursday that within months of acquiring a 28 percent share in Craigslist in August 2004, eBay began backtracking on its promises. Newmark said eBay executives including then-CEO Meg Whitman indicated that they would be happy holding a minority stake for several years, and Craigslist would be eBay’s exclusive online classifieds play.

Heartland data breach lawsuit dismissed CNet News
A lawsuit filed against Heartland Payment Systems over what is believed to be the biggest data breach in U.S. history has been dismissed. The lawsuit was filed in January against Heartland by shareholders who alleged that Heartland failed to adequately safeguard the compromised consumer data and did not notify consumers about the breach in a timely manner as required by law. The U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey granted Heartland’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit on Monday, Heartland said in a statement on Wednesday.

Father prosecuted for scolding son’s bully The Local
A Lund man has been charged with trespassing after going to the home of a boy who had been bullying his son and verbally scolding him. ‘The bullying stopped the same day, so it was worth it,’ the man, known as Michael, told the Skånskan newspaper. Michael is a highly educated university lecturer, and reportedly has a quiet and friendly demeanour. Moreover, he had never, until now, had contact with the justice system or the police. ‘It feels upsetting, and strange. But what should I have done otherwise?’ he asks.

Blockbusters Rule DVD Charts IMDb
Two of the year’s biggest blockbusters went head-to-head against one another as they debuted on DVD and Blu-ray last week, with the result paralleling their box-office performance. Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, which earned $177.2 million domestically, debuted in first place on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert DVD sales chart, while Terminator: Salvation, which grossed $125.3 million, came in second.

Apple Countersues Nokia for Copying iPhone Digital Daily
On Oct. 22, Nokia filed suit against Apple, accusing the company of hitching a ‘free-ride’ on its intellectual property. This morning, Apple filed a searing countersuit accusing Nokia of the same thing. In counterclaims filed in the U.S. District Court of Delaware, Apple (AAPL) denies infringement and asserts that Nokia (NOK) attempted to copy the iPhone and infringed 13 Apple patents in the process. It seeks the dismissal of Nokia’s complaint in its entirety, with prejudice, damages for Nokia’s alleged infringements, interest and legal fees.

Nickelback: ‘Band of the decade’, according to Billboard Canwest News Service
Nickelback is the top group of the decade, according to Billboard magazine. Rapper Eminem has been named the top artist of the decade, and ‘N Sync garnered the title album of the decade for its bestselling No Strings Attached (2000). Nickelback was the highest-ranking band of the decade, only finishing behind solo artists Eminem, 50 Cent, Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Nelly and Usher, for overall impact and importance. espite a distinct lack of critical acclaim, the rock band formed in Hanna, Alta., has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide.

Obama defends wars as he accepts prize China Daily
President Barack Obama entered the pantheon of Nobel Peace Prize winners Thursday with humble words, acknowledging his own few accomplishments while delivering a robust defense of war.
