Youth faces jail after Scientology DDoS attack
Remember Dmitriy Guzner?
“Three days before his 20th birthday, Dmitriy Guzner was looking at up to two-and-half years in jail and amost $119,000 in fines after pleading guilty to ‘unauthorized impairment of a protected computer’ — a Cult of Scientology computer”, said p2pnet last November.
Now “Brian Thomas Mettenbrink, 20, has agreed to plead guilty [next] Monday to misdemeanor unauthorized access of a protected computer,” says the Grand Island Independent.
Mettenbrink, “associated with the group ‘Anonymous’,” faces a year in jail.
Anonymous “took part in a distributed denial of service attack, which involved flooding a victim computer with large amounts of data in order to disable a site, against Church of Scientology Web sites, according to court documents,” says the story, adding:
“Mettenbrink worked with others to launch the attacks by loading a program onto his computer in his dorm room at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.”
